ARGOMENTO: The training course offer the opportunity to learn about maker education, and how to apply these concepts in youth work.


Activity date: 12th – 18th October 2020.
Venue place, venue country: Tirana, Albania.
Summary: We are offering two one-week-long courses over 2020 and 2021. They are targeted towards youth practitioners and will give them the opportunity to learn about maker education, and how to apply these concepts in youth work.
Target group: Youth workers, Trainers, Youth project managers, Youth coaches, Youth researchers, Individuals interested in a future in Youth Work.
For participants from: Albania, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Romania.
Group size: 24 participants.
Maker education is a problem-based and project-based approach to learning. It emphasizes the use of low-tech and high-tech gadgets, a trial-and-error mind set, and it encourages learners to develop 21st century skills such as communication, creativity and problem solving. Our project is providing 2 opportunities for youth workers to explore maker education, exchange on these topics with individuals from across Europe, brainstorm new tools, methods and techniques relevant to this field. Calling for participants from Latvia, France, Romania, Albania, Greece, Italy!
We are searching for candidates who are interested in:
• Developing their skills in digital technologies, problem solving and STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths).
• Developing skills to be able to use digital technologies for social change.
• Developing skills around MakerEducation and learning how such activities can be used to inspire younger generations and reconnect them with society.
The autumn 2020 mobility will focus on the following topics:
• Introduction to maker education: plunge into the universe of maker education, learn from each other’s experiences, explore state of the art educational supports on maker education, debate the influence of maker culture and the maker movement on the youth work sector.
• Electronic prototyping: learn how to create electronic circuits and manipulate electronic components. Explore maker activities for youth on this topic.
• Coding: explore physical computing, visual coding software, learn how to run educational activities on the computational way of thinking and enhance interactivity of electronic creations via computer programming.
• Reward system for maker education: brainstorm ways of rewarding the efforts of young makers, exchange on techniques and methods to acknowledge the learning outcomes of youth engaging in maker education.
• Maker education and inclusion: learn how to get hard to reach youth involved in maker activities.
The winter 2021 mobility will focus on the following topics:
• Robotics: explore project-based activities and challenges around building robots and automates, learn how to make robotics appealing and fun for young people.
• Electronic textiles: experiment cutting edge applications of electronics and programming through producing your own garments and accessories embedding electronic components and microcontrollers, learn how to run basic as well as more advanced workshops on e-textiles for youth.
• Computer Aided Design: learn to manipulate open source CAD software for graphic design, virtual reality and augmented reality. Explore ways to introduce a young audience to these topics and techniques.
• Internet of things: explore the universe of connected objects, learn how to create functional connected items with young people.
The courses will be held in Tirana, Albania. We will be hosted by Arduino Albania, an informal group of people with a passion for open source hardware and software, digital technologies and accessible education for all.
The training will be led by youth practitioners and professionals of the ICT sector from Digijeunes, Arduino Albania, Junda Youth centre, and HorizonLab.
Participation fee
There will be no participation fee.
Accommodation and food
The hosting will take place at hostels/ apartments near the training venue. Every day, 3 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided. Participants will share 2 and 3 beds rooms. Female and male participants will be separated.
Travel reimbursement
The info pack will contain an estimate of the overall price of tickets to reach the training venue from different starting countries. We will refund to participants the price of their tickets (within the limits of the Erasmus + lump sums). Traveling from Romania: up to 275 euro; traveling from Latvia: up to 275 euro; traveling from France: up to 275 euro; traveling from Greece: up to 180 euro; traveling from Albania: up to 180 euro; traveling from Italy: up to 275 euro.
